Second Middle East and Africa Open Source Software Technology Forum

Under the kind auspices and attendance of HE Dr. Mohamed Salem
, MCIT Minister, co-operation of Loghat El Asr Magazine, Concord for Exhibitions and Conferences
in cooperation with Phoenix Egypt are pleased to announce The Second Afro-Arab Open Source Forum; 22 - 23 November, 2011 in Information Technology Institute, ITI at the Smart Village – Cairo, Egypt.

The first MEAOSS Forum was attended by 120 specialists from manufacturing, banking, academia, CIT industry and government officials, 24 presentations on various topics were given by experts, delegates and speakers from USA, Morocco, Kenya, India and Bahrain joined us as well. Information Technology Industry Development Agency – ITIDA gave an official sponsorship while HE Dr. Ahmed Darwish, State Minister of Administrative Development honored the event with his kind auspices. Vendors of tools, applications and those with remarkable experiences are welcome to present their products, technologies, services and to discuss their success stories as well. The event strives to develop and support the usage of the open source technology in the ICT, enhance the low cost - innovative environment, in addition to spreading the sectored awareness.

Forum Booklet

An A5 size - 4 colors printed booklet will be handed to all forum delegates where the topics, presentations and speaker biographies are briefed and sponsors are advertised. The final conference schedule as well shall be inserted.

Presentations

To guarantee the relevance and coherence of the addressed topics, a special committee will review the proposed presentations for approval to be enrolled in the forum schedule. A brief bio of the speaker and a 5 lines short summary about the presentation together with name of the company, title and position of the speaker will appear in the forum booklet.

    H.E. Dr. Mohamed Salem : Minister Of Communications and Information Technology

    is an Egyptian academic and politician. He is minister of Communications and Information Technology in the cabinet of Dr. Essam Sharaf from 21 July 2011.Starting from 2002, he was the chairman of the Information Technology Institute (ITI), and a member of the institute’s board of trustees.

    Dr. Mohamed Salem holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in electrical engineering – computers and systems engineering from Ain Shams University, and a B.Sc. in electrical engineering from the Military Technical College. Dr.Salem also serves as a board member of the Center of Computers and Information Systems of Cairo University’s Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences; a board member of the Faculty of Computers and Information Technology of Sixth of October University; and chairman of the International Conference of Information and Communication Technology (ICICT), the International Conference of Multimedia (Digimedia), and the Arabic Conference for Geographic Information Systems (ArabMap)

    Holds a prize for the best newspaper articles on total quality journalism from Arab Dubai School of TQM for the year 2004, about an article on quality assurance in the software industry.

    Jury member in the national competition for online content in Egypt during the 2006 and 2007.

    Won the State Incentive Award for 2009 in the social sciences branch of scientific culture for his book "Information Security and National Security".

    Dominique Loucougain : CEO Of Mandriva S.A

    He recently joined Mandriva S.A. as CEO , Mr Dominique have a long Information Technology history.

    Coming from several fields such as ( Telecommunication , Manufacturing. Consultation and R&D Labs makes him qualified to move Mandriva in a total new world areas.

    Currently his work is focused on technological innovation and opening Mandriva research labs over the globe.

    Fabio Cunha : Fabio Cunha is the Technology Director with Microsoft's Open Solutions Group team.

    He's responsible for sales and technical evangelism for Microsoft's partnership with open source companies.

    Fabio is a native of Brazil and joined Microsoft three years ago after an extensive career in technical consulting across a breadth of Microsoft and Linux-based technologies for the enterprise.

    Jan Wildeboer : RedHat EMEA EVANGELIST.

    As the Red Hat EMEA Evangelist, Jan is responsible for high-level customer relations and for strengthening the Red Hat brand and ecosystem. This includes CxO level customer meetings, delivering keynote speeches at events across EMEA.

    Wildeboer community involvement and continuous championing of open source has resulted in the growing awareness and adoption of open standards in the Netherlands and across Europe. A well-known lobbyist for open source in Brussels, Wildeboer has led the successful movement to abolish the Software Patents directive in the European Parliament. He also initiated global construction technology manufacturer Hilti’s migration of mission-critical systems to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

    Previously working as a Systems Administrator at Seijsener in the Netherlands and Backend Systems Software Engineer at DomainFactory in Germany, Wildeboer continued his career as Core Developer at osCommerce, the leading open source e-Commerce platform. He then moved to Red Hat Germany to become a Solution Architect. Wildeboer is a member of the Open Forum Europe, Open Source Business Foundation (OSBF) and European Committee on Interoperable Systems (ECIS).

    Jean Parpaillon : is a FLOSS enthusiast at Mandriva.

    He is currently leading infrastructure management and cloud related projects in the company.

    He has joined the company one year ago after 6 years in HPC field.

    He has various experiences in industrialization of research projects, in public research, start-up and now Mandriva.

  • Naglaa Rizk

    Prof. Nagla Rizk : is Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Business, the American University in Cairo (AUC).

    She is founding Director of the Access to Knowledge for Development Center at AUC and an affiliated fellow of the Information Society Project at Yale Law School. Her area of research is the economics of knowledge, information technology and development, with focus on business models in the digital economy, intellectual property and human development.

    She is coeditor and contributor to: Access to Knowledge in Egypt, New Research on Intellectual Property, Innovation and Development (Bloomsbury Academic 2010; available online under creative commons license).

    Professor Rizk has taught at Yale Law School and at the University of Toronto.

What is MEAOSS Forum ?

First Middle East and Africa Open Source Software Technology Forum
15-16 June 2010

On the occasion of founding the Egyptian Society for Open Source Technology, Concord for Exhibitions and Conferences is pleased to announce The First MEA Open Source Software Technology Forum; 15-16 June, 2010 at Ramsis Hilton - Cairo. The forum shall encompass a 2 full days conference succeeded with a one day - 2 tracks tutorial on Thursday June 17th. The forum is a technology type of event directed to ICT users, service providers and developers.
Vendors of tools, applications and remarkable experiences are welcome to present their products, technologies, services and to discuss their success stories as well. The event strives to :

1 –Define and introduce the Open Source Technologies and its philosophy.
2 –Discuss the emerged work environment, licensing and copyright.
3 –Study different applications, tools and success stories.
4 –Present nontraditional solutions to network and databases security penetration.
5 –Calculate the cost saving and profit gained through implementing OSS.
6 –Emphasize the importance of adopting a national policy towards OSS.

Tutorials

The one day - 2 track post conference tutorial program covers training on applying OS technology and tools in Customer Relations Management in one track and Security Assessment & Network Testing in the other track. Attending the training program is optional and out of the conference fee.

    Ahmed DarwishHe received the Egyptian National Engineering Award for the year 1999. He is a member of few scientific and professional societies and on the editorial board and a reviewer for a number of publications. He shared in the design and development (and hold 50% of the IP) of 2 wireless simulation tools. He has over 64 publications in journals and scientific conferences, shared in 2 books, 11 invited talks and few sponsored research programs.Dr. Darwish was a consultant to a number of international organizations (UNESCO, FAO, ESCWA, European Union and World Bank), government organizations and companies both in the United States and Egypt.     Manal's passion for the Arabic language and its related culture was nurtured in childhood.
